After the last Ice age, the human establishment began in Rwanda. Soon by the time of the 16th century, the places were divided into colonies and kingdoms. The colonial power of Rwanda was in the hands of Germany and Belgium, but in 1962, Belgium granted National freedom to Rwanda.
Later, direct elections were held and the majority was gained by Hutu (Bantu ethnic). After this, the power was passed on to Juvenal Habyarimana in 1973. Many political tensions took place. In 1990, RPF, a rebel group composed of 10,000 Tutsi, started the Rwandan civil war.
After some years of unsettled scenarios, in April 1994, Habyarimana was shot dead and that gave birth to the 1994 Rwandan genocide where mass killing of Tutsis happened and it left Rwanda bleak.
After that, the power was in the hands of RPF, and thousands of Hutus were imprisoned and treated like animals over a couple of years to take the revenge of genocide. All this led to Rwanda what it is today but it coped up eventually and now it is a proper developing state.
