Tanzania’s national airline is Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) which carries the national treasure of Mt. Kilimanjaro as its slogan “The Wings Of Kilimanjaro”. The airline is based in Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam with its hub at the modern state-of-the-art Julius Nyerere International Airport out of terminals II and III. Air Tanzania was estaiblished back in 1977 after the dissolution of East African Airways as it was still a member of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA). The airline is a Tanzanian government-owned asset, with a fleet of 12 aeroplanes that take part in the airline's daily operations.
Air Tanzania allows you to travel with 7kg hand luggage that should be small enough to fit in the overhead compartment of the airplane. Anything larger or more needs to be a part of the checked-in luggage which is limited to 23kg in Economy and 30kg in Business class respectively.
The domestic flight check-in counter closes 40 minutes before departure, while an international flight check-in counter closes an hour before departure. In order to avoid last-minute delays, passengers are encouraged to check in 90 minutes prior to departure. Check-in requires photo identification for each passenger and certified birth certificates of an infant or child must be certified. Passports are also required for international flights.
We recommend checking in online before getting to the airport - it saves you time and is easy. Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes 4 hours before flight departure.
