Air India’s ‘The Maharajah Club’

In 1946 the first mascot of an Indian airline made the headlines and the mascot was given the name ‘Maharajah’. The mascot was the brainchild of the then commercial director of Air India, Bobby Kooka and the artist from JWT Ltd., Umesh Rao. The mascot was the perfect icon the airline needed to show humility a class to all their travellers. The mascot soon became the icon of a membership club by Air India, where travellers could use their travel points to upgrade their bookings or the category of class they were travelling in.

Featured Destination: Kenya

The African nation of Kenya is one of the top destinations that soon Air India will be commencing its new operations in the MEA region. Kenya is among the top tourist destinations on the continent of Africa that every year attracts a multitude of visitors from all across the globe. The region's only asset is the rich and diverse flora and fauna that provides the perfect habitat for the ‘Big Five’ that can be found in this nation. The safari experiences in Kenya are some of the best in all of Africa and you will never be left without an activity to do in Kenya.

About Air India

Air India was the dream of J.R.D Tata who always dreamt of flying high and was the first Indian to receive a commercial pilot license. It was the keen passion for soaring through the sky that gave rise to this dream that today has evolved into a massive conglomerate of trust and success. Air India’s journey first took flight in 1932 and since then has been the name of great trust and reliability.

Today Air India connects over 100 destinations across 45 cities and 31 countries while flying to every city in India. The recent entry of Air India into Kenya, Ethiopia and the Tanzania market marks the re-entry and new beginnings on the African continent. The airline in the past on numerous occasions has also been a part in rescuing people from war-struck countries during the Gulf War and the most recent Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Baggage

Ai India allows you to travel with 7kg hand luggage that should be small enough to fit in the overhead compartment of your airplane. Anything larger or more than that needs to be a part of the checked-in luggage which is roughly 15 Kg.

Health & Safety

  • A face mask must be worn by all passengers and staff during the flight.
  • Prior to each flight, all surfaces are meticulously sanitized, including security trays, check-in stations, tray tables and screens.
  • You can avoid queues by downloading your boarding pass.
  • More than 99% of airborne particles, including viruses and bacteria, are removed by onboard HEPA filters.
  • During the inspection, travellers will be required to scan their own boarding passes and hold up their passports.

Check-In

The domestic flight check-in counter closes 40 minutes before departure, while an international flight check-in counter closes an hour before departure. In order to avoid last-minute delays, passengers are encouraged to check in 90 minutes prior to departure. Check-in requires photo identification for each passenger and certified birth certificates of an infant or child must be certified. Passports are also required for international flights.

We recommend checking in online before getting to the airport - it saves you time and is easy. Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes 4 hours before flight departure.

On-Board

Air India currently operates a fleet of 127 airpalnes which is made up of Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-800 Dreamliners and from the AirBus class the 319, 320, 320Neo and 321. Online seat allocations can be done by contacting our Travelwings customer executive. (extra charges applicable)
